Indent & Credits

GEM Branding Versions

GEM utilizes three distinct branding versions for its content: Product Ident, Theatrical Intro, and Theatrical Outro. Each ident must align precisely with the aspect ratio, frame rate, resolution, and audio format of the associated content.

Product Ident

The GEM encoding process allows for the insertion of the ‘Product’ ident at the beginning and end of content for streaming services. Typically, final delivery packages (using IMF or similar standards) do not include these idents by default, unless explicitly coordinated with GEM’s content management team.

Available formats for the Product ident support HDR and Dolby Vision settings with corresponding metadata, ensuring consistent quality across different mastering displays.

Theatrical Intro

Designed for theatrical screenings, the ‘Theatrical Intro’ ident runs at a native 24 frames-per-second and has a duration of approximately 18.7 seconds. This includes one second of black screen or silence at the start. The visual ident is paired with GEM’s distinctive musical branding.

Theatrical Outro

Similarly, the ‘Theatrical Outro’ ident plays after the program’s conclusion during theatrical showings. Also natively 24 frames-per-second, it lasts around 6 seconds and features a one-second black screen at both the start and end of the ident. This segment is silent, providing a gentle conclusion to the viewing experience.

Aspect Ratio Specifications

The original GEM ident has a 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio. Other aspect ratios exceeding this width are created by letterboxing with appropriate cropping or matting applied to maintain visual integrity. Should a specific crop or matte not be feasible to fit the program’s ratio, GEM content specialists should be consulted for alternate versions.

Implementation for Delivery and Screenings

  • For streaming delivery (IMF packages): Content is generally delivered without idents, but must include one second of black or silence before and after the program.
  • For simulation or service formatting:
  • Begin with 1 second of black/silence
  • Followed by 4 seconds of the Product ident
  • Another second of black/silence
  • Then the program content
  • After the program ends, 1 second of black/silence
  • Then 4 seconds of the Product ident
  • Ending with 1 second of black/silence
  • For theatrical screenings:
  • Begin with the Theatrical Intro ident (18.7 seconds)
  • Play the program
  • End with the Theatrical Outro ident (6 seconds)

This framework ensures GEM content is branded consistently across all viewing environments, giving audiences a seamless and professional presentation while respecting technical requirements.
