Technical Requirements and Specifications

To ensure your series meets GEM quality standards and technical specifications, carefully review these requirements before submission. Meeting these criteria will streamline the review process and increase your chances of acceptance.

Episode Length and Structure

Each episode must be 90 seconds or less, with no exceptions. A complete series requires 6-10 episodes that tell a cohesive story with satisfying resolution. Episodes should be designed to stand alone while contributing to the larger narrative.

Video Format and Quality

Both vertical (9:16) and horizontal (16:9) orientations are accepted. Minimum resolution of 1080p is recommended, with 4K preferred for future-proofing. Files should be compressed in H.264 or H.265 codec with a bitrate of at least 5 Mbps.

Audio Requirements

Audio must be clean, clear, and properly synced. Background noise should be minimal. Mix to -12dB to -6dB peak levels with no clipping. Stereo audio (AAC codec) at minimum 192 kbps is required.

Subtitles and Language

Content can be in any language, but English subtitles are mandatory for non-English dialogue. Subtitles should be provided as .SRT files, properly timed and formatted according to platform standards.

Rights and Clearances

All content must be original or properly licensed, including footage, music, logos, and brand references. Documentary content requires signed releases from all identifiable subjects. You must own or have secured all necessary rights for commercial distribution.

***Remember that your content will be viewed primarily on mobile devices. Consider how your composition, text size, and visual elements will appear on smaller screens when finalizing your episodes.

GEM recommends conducting multiple quality control checks before submission, including viewing your content on different devices (phones, tablets, computers) to ensure it translates well across platforms. Testing your episodes with sample viewers who haven’t been involved in production can provide valuable feedback on clarity and engagement.
